Meet January Athlete of the Month: Lane Morrison

By Scarlet Rodriguez

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, interests/hobbies, etc).

I’m an attorney with Bush Seyferth and do mostly product liability law. I’m originally from Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama. I’m married to my wife Madison. We moved to Houston in early May 2021. We have a French Bulldog named Stella. In my spare time, I love reading and cooking.

When did you start working out District H?

May 2021

What made you decide to start working out in general?

I started working out to try and lose weight and I found that it did wonders for my stress levels, so that hooked me!

How have your workouts made an impact on your life outside of the gym?

It’s definitely helped my stress levels and gives me so much more energy. I weirdly feel so much more tired on days I don’t work out.

What is your favorite & least favorite workout or movement?

Favorite movement – pull ups

Least favorite movement – burpees (especially bar-facing or box-jump burpees)

What is your favorite & least favorite lift?

Favorite lift – power cleans

Least favorite lift – overhead squats

What are your fitness goals?

I’d really like to be able to do a muscle up (bar or ring) soon. I am also working to generally increase my lifting PRs, especially on movements that I’m less comfortable on. I also just started working with Miranda on nutrition coaching—I’ve already seen some good results with that and am excited about seeing more!

What is your proudest gym moment/achievement?

I PR’d my overhead squat in December (and am hoping for more soon!) and was recently able to do rope climbs for the first time.

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

“The only person you should try to be better than is who you were yesterday.”

Tell us something people would be surprised to know about you.

I can’t snap my fingers or whistle (so it’s hard for me to get people’s attention sometimes without yelling!)

What advice would you give to newbies?

Be consistent and don’t worry about not being the strongest or fastest!
