Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, interests/hobbies, etc). I am a New Yorker by way of North Carolina. My wife Danielle (who you may see during Saturday classes) and I have been living in Houston for just over 8yrs. Many of my hobbies are contained within the city: biking, parks, walks with my Cocker Spaniel and of course restaurants! When did you start working out District H? I’ve been part of District H for about 4 mos. I am going to be a resident of The Heights soon and wanted to orient more of my life around the amenities of my future home…oh and some old CrossFit chums Roger, Yvonne, Mimi and Coach Audrey are banging around every so often. What made you decide to start working out in general? I’ve always enjoyed being active but never was serious about it until I had to rehab from a jiu jitsu...

In this upcoming strength cycle we be focusing on: 1) Pause Front Squat (Mondays) 2) Push Jerk (Wednesdays) 3) Power Clean Complex (Fridays) Pause Front Squat Although the front squat is often associated with the clean, it is amazing squat variation that actually allows members to keep a more upright torso and target the core and quadricep muscles more fully.  We are adding the additional pause at the bottom to help: Create kinesthetic awareness by remaining in a good upright position Develop strength in the legs by increasing the time under tension Open up the upper back to help those of us who are in a constant extended position Develop core strength by loading the front side of our body Beginners (less than 6 months with us) Try to focus on motor control, proper depth in the squat, and breathing mechanics. If the flexed position on our wrists does not...

We are very excited to move into this new year and wanted to take the time to speak to our community about what lies ahead for the gym that means so much to everyone. As we reflect on the last few years, we cannot help but think what a ride it has been. From transitioning our business model and programming to updating the facility and brand of District H, we are constantly striving to be a leader in Houston when it comes to world class strength, conditioning, health, and overall wellness. We strongly believe in creating an organization build on the core values of professionalism, service, a holistic approach to health, adopting a growth mindset on improving ourselves and our service offering, and taking a team-first mentality in everything we do. Our culture is built on the principles of intentional training methods and constant evolution and improvement where we create...

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, interests/hobbies, etc). I moved to HOU from Dallas this year- I love traveling, painting, and rollerblading. When did you start working out District H? This July- I’ve never done these kinds of workouts before, and I’m really enjoying them!  How have your workouts made an impact on your life outside of the gym?  I like feeling stronger, and I can skate faster.   What is your favorite & least favorite workout or movement? I think pushing a sled is fun, but I do not love wall ball exercises.  What is your favorite & least favorite lift?  I’ve really enjoyed the complex lifts- that’s something I’ve never done before District H.  One favorite is (attempting) the split jerk, and I am forever humbled by strict presses.  What are your fitness goals? One day I want to be able to do a handstand (without falling on my face) What is...

Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, interests/hobbies, etc).I grew up in the Fort Worth area and then moved to College Station after high school where I attended Texas A&M, majoring in civil engineering. While I was there, I adopted a wonderful little monster, Nessie (our now 8 year old dog) and met my husband, Nick a fellow District H member. I moved to Houston a couple years after school and am loving it! Nick and I like taking advantage of outdoor activities that Houston has to offer- from going to memorial park, golfing, or walking our dog by the bayou.  When did you start working out District H? December 2021!  What made you decide to start working out in general? Between planning our wedding that took place earlier this year and general work/life stress- I needed an outlet and working out has always been a great stress reliever for me. How have your workouts made an impact...
