I started CrossFit in December of 2013. Like most of you, my journey started out as an overworked, undernourished, stressed out mess of a human being that was motivated by how I looked in a picture at my wife’s baby brother’s high school graduation. I immediately fell in love with it.
But little did I know that this was just the beginning of the journey.
Amplifier #1: Nutrition
As much as I enjoyed the high intensity of CrossFit, it soon acted as a double-edged sword when coupled with my poor nutrition habits. I simply thought that if I burned more than I took in, whether it was In N’ Out Burger (remember I am originally from California) or kale, it didn’t matter.
Here is the hard truth: if you ever want that desired body, a healthier blood panel, or just see whatever results you want out of your exercise routine, you have to address the nutritional elephant in the room. There are not shortcuts here, but I can tell you from personal experience that the journey is well worth it. You would be amazed how quickly you will see results.
Amplifier #2: Mindset
Most of what we accomplish in our lifetime is determined on what goes on between the ears. What is the narrative that goes on in your head as to why something does or does not exist?
“I can’t look a certain way because of X or “There is no way I could ever do that because of Y.”
These narratives or “self-talk” can trap us into our “ordinary world” where we are afraid to take risks or simply not allow our God given talents to be fully displayed.
Imposter Syndrome is something that I still battle with to this day. “I can’t own a gym…people will soon find out that I am an imposter and then it will all come crumbling down.”
Conquering your mindset will not only unlock your potential within the four walls of District H, but it will also transfer over into other areas of your life. Pay attention to the story going on inside your head and change the story if you don’t like what you are hearing.
Amplifier #3: Community
Humans are tribal in nature. The tribe we decided to associate ourselves with will also influence our mood, behaviors, and success.
Think about the people who you see most often. Do they inspire you and support you? Or are they constantly negative? Putting other people down or judging them based on their own insecurities?
Surround yourself with like-minded people who lift you up and are dedicated to your personal mission and life. Guard and defend that relationship with everything you got. Level up your tribe with people who are going to make you a better person.
Once you start to apply these amplifiers to your daily fitness routine, you will begin to notice that the habits and practices we build within District H are meant to be applied to our lives outside of District H. Challenging ourselves & overcoming obstacles, developing a healthy mindset, and properly nourishing our body will make our lives incredible.
