By Scarlet Rodriguez Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, interests/hobbies, etc). I’m an attorney with Bush Seyferth and do mostly product liability law. I’m originally from Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama. I’m married to my wife Madison. We moved to Houston in early May 2021. We have a French Bulldog named Stella. In my spare time, I love reading and cooking. When did you start working out District H? May 2021 What made you decide to start working out in general? I started working out to try and lose weight and I found that it did wonders for my stress levels, so that hooked me! How have your workouts made an impact on your life outside of the gym? It’s definitely helped my stress levels and gives me so much more energy. I weirdly feel so much more tired on days I don’t work out. What is your favorite...

By: Scarlet Rodriguez Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, interests/hobbies, etc).I grew up in Meyerland and got my BS. in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University. I have a 6year old German Shepherd/lab mix named Remington. I enjoy spending time with friends/family, being outside- hiking, biking, camping, etc., and enjoy trying new foods (I love food). When did you start working out District H?I joined District H June 2021. I knew I wanted to find a gym that had a strong sense of community. I wanted a place that had passionate and educated coaches, members who were encouraging, and an environment that fostered authentic and positive growth both physically and mentally. From the moment I walked into District H, I felt welcomed, encouraged, and knew this was the place for me! By Scarlet Rodriguez Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, interests/hobbies, etc). I’m happily married to Lauren Helton and I’m originally from St. Louis MO. I currently work for Anheuser Busch at their Houston Brewery where I work on the packaging side… anything that comes in a bottle or keg is from one of my lines! I also am a part of taste panel at the brewery so I make sure everyone’s favorite beer is perfect before it hits the market. I played baseball and football in college and looooove snowboarding. I’ve been snowboarding on every continent except Africa (its possible) and Anartica (also possible). Otherwise I play golf and slow pitch softball. When did you start working out District H?  I realized it was getting harder and harder to lace up my snowboarding boots because I wasn’t as flexible as I once was. I had only been lifting weights...

by Coach Tommy I am a firm believer that A LOT of us go through life constantly distracting ourselves from what we truly want.  Staying in an unrewarding job just to pay the bills! Scrolling through social media versus communicating with our significant others! Spending money on unnecessary objects that attempt to fill a void in our lives. For the better part of my 20’s, I would seek to distract myself from some hard truths that I wasn’t ready to face. Things like: Not being passionate in my career (portfolio manager at the time)Not working on some of the personal faults that I had developed during my final years in high school and throughout college (pleasing others, doing what was expected versus what I wanted, & an identity crisis)Not facing, head-on, some of the emotional baggage that had built up since my teenage years (easily irritable, guarded, resentful, & tired) Through fitness,...

by Coach Tommy I hear it from members all the time. “Why are learning double unders important? “Why is doing a handstand necessary for overall wellness?” When am I ever going to perform a snatch in real life?” “While most people equate skill development in functional fitness to performance, that is a very skewed lens. Skill development when it comes to movement is significant for everyday function. Balance, coordination, agility, and multi-planar proprioception help you develop advanced movement techniques that allow you to tackle real-life challenges that we are constantly facing in open space. Developing a skill like double unders allows you to increase your cardiac output and pace, which means you will get more work done in less time.  Developing a skill like a handstand increases your body awareness and vestibular system. For those of you who have ever suffered from vertigo, that is your vestibular system not functioning correctly. ...
